It’s been a while since the last post, but it has been a busy time so here is a brief update.
Things are looking great at the hatchery this year. Lyle has done a great job in his new role and the membership has been very supportive. The challenges we have on work days are made easy with the members stepping up and taking on the jobs that keep our operation running smoothly. It would not be possible without this type of help. Thanks to all our volunteers!
The Coho smolts that we wintered over and babysat grew particularly well this season, so they have a great start on
the next part of their journey.
We had a tremendous turn out for the Coho smolt release this year. Check out the pictures in the gallery. Many thanks to our regular hard working members and our friends from Carihi High, and the Royal Bank for all the effort and enthusiasm that made this day a great success.
At this time we would like to thank the following individuals and groups for their recent generous donations;
TimberWest Forest Corp.
Barry and Roz Scott
Colleen, Judy and Lynda, representing the Royal Bank
Duane Gee, representing Investors Group
Investors Group Matching Gift Program
Elizabeth Young, representing the B.C. Salmon Farmers Association
We have a whole list of projects for the year that will keep everyone busy and focused. Here are just a few.
With the help from “Small Planet Energy”, we are updating our “Solar” energy system to a new and modern (hands free)system that will last for years to come. The old system served us well, and after seeing how professionally it was designed and installed proves that fact.
Also the settling ponds are due to be cleaned again, so that will be a major project in August.
We are continuing to improve our signage and adding new trails with support from our friends at the CVRD.
Please check back from time to time for more updates and photos as the summer progresses.
